Elderly Care in Upper St. Clair PA

This June 12 join people across the United States who will celebrate National Red Rose Day.  The red rose is one of the strongest symbols of love and romance in the United States and often theElderly-Care-in-Upper-St.-Clair-PA flower of choice for Valentine’s Day or simply as a romantic gesture. So how can National Red Rose Day be celebrated with a senior?  Read on to learn more.
1.  Bring or send an elderly loved one a bouquet of red roses
It’s as simple as picking up the phone and placing the order for adult children or other family members who live far from an elderly loved one.  Dropping by for a visit with a bouquet of fresh cut red roses is sure to brighten an aging parent’s day.    Encourage aging parents to tell any stories that roses reminds them of.  Come armed with facts about the history of the rose for some fun trivia such as the fact that black roses are not black. They are dark red.  Or the fact that a rose bush has covering the wall of the Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany for over 1000 years, proving that the rose can survive for a long time.
 2.  Plant a rose bush
Visit a local nursery to browse the different rose bushes available.  Ask questions about care and cost.  If an elderly loved one is unable to care for the rose bush perhaps this is something the elder’s home care provider can help with. Otherwise, the rose bush can be planted at the adult child’s house or somewhere else.
3. Find a rose garden
June is the month of the rose.  This is when they come to life and fill the air with their beautiful scent.  Check the local area for a public rose garden or other rose display.   Chances are you won’t have to drive too far to find roses somewhere nearby.
4. Rent movies with the word “rose” in them
If getting out and about is not possible for the aging parent, bring a couple of movies along with a bouquet of roses.  Stay in the rose theme, renting movies such as “The War of the Roses” or the romance “Bed of Roses.” If the senior likes documentaries, do some google research and order a documentary about roses that they might enjoy.
